COPU Governance & Parliamentary Law Program

The Central Ohio Parliamentary Unit, which studies parliamentary procedure, is holding a three-hour program on April 7, 2017 for Parliamentary Law Month entitled "Governance & Parliamentary Law." Despite its name, the program is not actually really geared for attorneys - a common misnomer. In fact, the public may be misled by the mention of law. However, proper governance is necessary for any association to run effectively, thus OSAE is endorsing the program and will offer 2.5 hours of CEU credits.

Did you realize that parliamentary procedure is basically derived from the migration of Parliament in Great Britain into a functional guide called Robert Rules of Order, which was developed by General Henry Robert (1837-1923)? As practitioners of parliamentary studies and parliamentary law, we want to educate others for seamless meetings, great bylaws and stellar governance. 

COPU will be hosting this program between 9:00 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Sharon Woods Blvd. in Worthington, Ohio. The program will focus on board governance and parliamentary items that arise, such as items like elections, balloting or governance processes. This program is not planned to be a basic nuts and bolts of who does what; it will delve into more substantive materials for governance. As executives, we need to know precise details to facilitate our board meetings most effectively and to avoid catastrophes that may arise out of our poor governance.
