Content Marketing Specialist / Editor

The American Ceramic Society

Do you have a natural curiosity about science and engineering and its impact on the world we live in today, as well as the world we will live in 30 years or more from now? We need someone who knows multi-channel publishing and likes to write to tell the stories of the people, businesses, and materials that drive technology. Our audience is technical, but the writer who fills this position will be able to write about the business, government, regulation, and current event contexts that impact science and engineering.

This position requires its incumbent to wear many hats, and is a great opportunity for someone who has a passion for developing content to drive multiple goals. Our content portfolio includes blogs, print and digital publications, event reporting, membership campaigns, social media, and video content marketing. We’re looking for someone who is as comfortable talking to plant engineers as university professors, loves interacting with people in the U.S. and abroad, and is interested in people at all career levels—from student through retired.

  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills. Well-organized and able to manage and meet deadlines. A background in media/publishing and content marketing is a plus.
  • Relate well with science and engineering audiences in terms of their technical interests, but also their business interests.
  • Able to interpret and communicate complex ideas through writing and social media.
  • Have a skill for finding news and stories from industry, academia, and government relevant to ACerS members.
  • Experience using web, print, and social media content to grow audiences and drive action.
  • Experience writing content to market an idea, such as membership.
  • Experience creating strategic messaging campaigns and communications, including use of analytics to evaluate effectiveness
  • Five years editorial or content marketing experience preferred.
  • College degree in business writing, science writing, marketing, or communications. Technical background is a plus.
  • Computer skills: Macintosh platform, Microsoft Office, Acrobat suite (Indesign, Adobe, and Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of Word Press, email systems such as EMMA or Constant Contact, and social media platforms and “listening” tools.
  • Ability to edit images and videos preferred.
  • Knowledge of AP Style Guide preferred.
  • Occasional overnight travel to conferences or events.
