Ohio Craft Brewers Association Names New President

The new president is from Seventh Son Brewing

Seventh Son Brewing's Collin Castore has been elected as president of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Castore, the non-profit organization's current secretary, will replace Fat Head's Brewery's Chris Alltmont, whose term was up.

Castore becomes the fourth president of the 10-year-old organization, which represents Ohio's 200-plus breweries. Eric Bean of Columbus Brewing Co. and John Najeway of Thirsty Dog Brewing in Akron also have served terms.

The group's board is very representative of its body, with members coming from all corners of the state.

Wally Weiss, assistant brewmaster at Sibling Revelry Brewing in Westlake, was elected to his first term on the board. Board member Brady Duncan of MadTree Brewing in Cincinnati will take over as secretary. Larry Horwitz of Four String Brewing Co. in Columbus and Tom Schaeffer of Black Cloister Brewing in Toledo were re-elected to the board.

"I'm pretty excited about it," said Weiss, who is originally from Olmsted Falls and is coming up on his first anniversary of working at Sibling Revelry. "I bring about 14 years of professional brewing experience, working with Anheuser-Busch in San Francisco and Catawba Island Brewing Co. (in Port Clinton). I have a lot of different experiences I can share with the younger folks just getting started."

Weiss will be busy not only with his new position but with his current job. Sibling Revelry recently finished its patio, which has expanded seating, and is looking to hire an operations person, delivery driver, sales people and bartenders, he said.

"We're working day and night to get beer out," Weiss said.

The newly elected members will be seated in August and serve two-year terms.

The OCBA recently announced its next annual conference, in January 2018, will be in Cleveland.
