Coalition Restates Opposition to Texas Bathroom Bills

Open letter urges lawmakers to abandon efforts to pass a discriminatory “bathroom bill"

ASAE and the “Keep Texas Open for Business” coalition today released an open letter urging Texas lawmakers and Gov. Greg Abbott to abandon efforts to pass a discriminatory “bathroom bill” during the Legislature’s current special session.

“Our opposition to bathroom bills remains steadfast,” the letter signers said. “We view these bills as unnecessary, and the passage of any of them would level significant economic harm and would impact real people.”

The letter is signed by more than 90 major corporations, chambers of commerce and convention and visitor bureaus.

There are six days left in the Texas Legislature’s special session and the business community has remained vigilantly opposed to several legislative proposals that would deny public accommodations to transgender individuals and preempt existing anti-discrimination ordinances put in place by cities like Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio to protect the LGBTQ community.
