Millennials at Work: An Open Letter

Move past the stereotypes and uncover their value

Everything from the way Millennials eat, shop and consume media to the way we conduct our home lives has been under constant examination. Whether you’re a Millennial or not, I’m sure you’re just about as tired of hearing about them as I am. This isn’t because I’m at all disinterested in my own generation, but putting Millennials under a microscope seems to have led to some really outlandish ideas, and may even be contributing to a more dramatic generational gap at work.

For me, the strangest of these Millennial topics is what we supposedly look for in a workplace. I’ve read about companies that replace desk chairs with yoga balls, let you bring your pets to work or even have music rooms full of instruments for employees to use when they’re feeling overwhelmed.

I know I don’t speak for all of us, but I can’t see myself leaving the yoga ball at my desk to go play the drums with my co-workers during a stressful day at work.
