Administration's Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Delayed

The annual budget and economic outlook report is typically released in January

President Donald Trump’s fiscal 2019 budget request will be sent to Congress a week later than anticipated due to time lost during the recent government shutdown, according to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

“The shutdown came at a very critical time and, therefore, we have to slip to at least the twelfth [of February],” OMB spokesman John Czwartacki told POLITICO.

The annual budget and economic outlook report is typically released in January, but the chairmen of the House and Senate budget committees has requested that the economic outlook report reflect changes in tax law enacted late last year.

Trump will preview his budget request in his first State of the Union address on Jan. 30, which will likely touch on immigration (and funding for the wall he wants constructed along the United States' southern border). The address is also expected to focus on infrastructure, which the White House has emphasized as a priority and a possible area for bipartisanship.
