House Appropriators Boost IRS Funding

The $11.6 billion represents an increase of $186 million

On June 13, 2018, the House Appropriations Committee voted 28-20 to boost Internal Revenue Service (IRS) funding to $11.6 billion for the 2019 fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.

The $11.6 billion represents an increase of $186 million from the agency’s current funding level, with $77 million specifically tied to implementing the new tax law. The IRS requested about $400 million for implementing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) but received most of that in its fiscal 2018 allocation.

Additional funds are also earmarked to support the improvement of the agency’s customer service and fraud prevention and cybersecurity efforts.
