Ohio Bill Would Require All County Sales Tax Increases To Go Before Voters

The bill intends to stop county commissioners from unilaterally increasing taxes

A new Ohio General Assembly bill would require all county sales tax increases to go before the public for a vote - a proposal that has counties nervous as funds have been cut and needs have increased.

Montgomery County Republican Reps. Niraj Antani and Todd Smith say their bill would stop county commissioners from unilaterally increasing taxes.

"Tax increases at all levels are unacceptable," Antani said in a statement. "However, if one is going to occur at the local level, it must be a voice of the people. There should be no new taxes without a voice."
