House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) yesterday announced the appointment of 10 new Democratic members to the committee.
As the tax-writing committee in the House, Ways and Means has jurisdiction over many issues impacting the tax-exempt sector.
Five of the 10 new Democrats on the committee – Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI), Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA), Rep. Jimmy Penetta (D-CA) and Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) – are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The other new members are Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI), Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL).
“I am thrilled to welcome these talented women and men to the senior committee,” Neal said. “Their input will strengthen our work in the coming years to improve Americans’ retirement security, lower health care costs, cut taxes for middle-class families and modernize our nation’s infrastructure.”
Only 27 incumbent Ways and Means members returned to Congress this year. House Republicans have not yet announced who will fill their vacancies on Ways and Means.
