ASAE Joins Calls for End to Shutdown

ASAE joined an increasing chorus of business groups seeking resolution

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has joined the increasing chorus of business groups urging Congress and the administration to negotiate an end to the longest government shutdown in history.

This week, ASAE joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other industry groups in a letter urging the White House and lawmakers to take action immediately to end the political impasse and put federal employees back to work.

“There are numerous paths forward that would allow for the government to be reopened that should be acceptable to all parties,” the letter said. “Failing to seize on one of those compromises that can pass Congress and be signed into law is unacceptable. The time to act, the time to end this shutdown is now so that we can keep the economy moving forward.”

ASAE has also signed on to an ad this week created by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) that calls on lawmakers and President Donald Trump to negotiate an end to the shutdown.

“ASAE and the broader association community work closely with the federal government on a wide range of issues impacting society and we stand in support of those furloughed workers impacted by the ongoing partial government shutdown,” said ASAE President and CEO John Graham, FASAE, CAE. “This shutdown impacts the lives of veterans and other citizens who have made a commitment to public service, as well as the American people who depend on the government for many critical services.”
