Toledo Buildings Still Without Power

Without power for the weekend, the Renaissance hotel staff opted to get creative

One Government Center and the Toledo Municipal Court building in downtown Toledo remained closed Monday as crews continued to make repairs from a construction accident that cut electricity to multiple downtown buildings.

However, the police department stayed open, with the Safety Building running on generator power, according to a news release from the city of Toledo.

Left without power for the weekend, the Renaissance hotel staff opted to get creative Friday by providing a day-time picnic of grilled food, mules, and mimosas as well as cash-only alcoholic beverages from the Brim-House Restaurant while The Heights — the rooftop hotel bar — was closed, according to the hotel’s Twitter account. By Saturday, the company was reporting that power — along with the hotel Wi-Fi and television services — had been restored. Mr. Eck said Sunday that was accomplished using generators because repairs had not been completed by then.

Staff at the Renaissance declined to comment on how the need to use backup generators was affecting operations in the hotel.
