An Update on May CAE Testing from ASAE

This is very important information if you plan on taking the exam

For candidate convenience and the overall security of the certified association executive exam, (CAE) exam, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) is moving to a computer-based administration beginning with the spring exam. In making this move, the exam will be administered through Scantron, the firm that supports ASAE’s exam. With the move to computer-based testing, candidates will have a two-week window to take the exam at one of Scantron’s testing sites throughout the U.S. and internationally.

As the nation is now in a difficult period with COVID-19 and ASAE is not holding any in-person events through May 20, they are moving the spring exam from May to June 8-21, 2020. ASAE indicated to OSAE that it will keep candidates up to date on any further changes should they be necessary. Scantron will also track and communicate any closings of its testing sites during the exam window.

Candidates will receive a notice to schedule from Scantron by early May, and they will be able to select a site and test date based on seating availability within Scantron’s network of US and international test sites.

The CAE exam will be given on Scantron’s PASS system. A PASS demo is accessible here for candidates’ review and practice.

The CAE Commission believes the transition to computer-based testing increases accessibility to the exam and tightens test security. Candidates will not receive results immediately after they complete the exam at a testing center as the post-exam process is not changing. After the test, the questions are analyzed statistically to identify if there are any hidden flaws. Questions that appear to be flawed are reviewed by the CAE Examination Committee to determine how that question should be scored. After these issues are resolved, the test is scored and results are finalized.  With this careful process, candidates will be sent results approximately 6 weeks after the exam testing window closes.

ASAE hopes that the move to a computer-based test will be a good change for candidates as it will allow them additional flexibility and convenience.
