Apartment dwellers around the country are facing a tough situation as sudden layoffs have forced many people off of payrolls and onto unemployment. But one local association is working to ease the financial strain on the renters its members serve.
The Houston Apartment Association this week launched the HAA Renter Assistance Fund to help support residents struggling to cover their monthly rent. The Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries, a Houston-based charity that offers emergency assistance for low-income families, will administer the fund, to which the association donated $100,000 as a starting point.
