Virtual Store Tours
Trying to get legislators to take an up-close look at your industry is already a bit of a lift in normal times. But the COVID-19 era requires a whole lot of creativity.

Recently, the National Retail Federation found a way to get creative, launching a series of virtual store tours targeting legislators’ home districts. Last week, for example, Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), who chairs the House Small Business Committee, was able to take a virtual tour of Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store, in her district, over Zoom. (The store received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan in May.)

Another House member who got the virtual tour treatment recently, according to The Hill, was Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH), who “visited” the Smoke Stack Hobby Shop of Lancaster, Ohio, and talked to its owners. David French, NRF senior vice president of government relations, said the association plans to continue organizing the events regularly through the foreseeable future.
