Coronavirus Tracker: Beverage Association Offers Conflict De-escalation Training

July 21, 2020

Current updates on association response to the global COVID-19 crisis, along with a roundup of conference, travel and business news and information.

Lessons in Handling Unmasked Rebellion
The Michigan Licensed Beverage Association (MLBA) is offering free training in conflict de-escalation to  bar and restaurant employees across the state. The focus is handling customers who refuse to comply with the statewide order to wear a mask in public.

The training is designed to equip staffers and managers with skills in active listening, evaluating physical and vocal cues, and proven conflict de-escalation techniques. At least two people in Michigan have died as a result of confrontations involving wearing masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and such public conflicts often see essential workers placed in a peacemaking position.
