Coronavirus Tracker: National Guard Association Hosts Virtual 5K

August 11, 2020

Current updates on association response to the global COVID-19 crisis, along with a roundup of conference, travel and business news and information.

Annual Fun Run Goes Virtual
The National Guard Association of the United States is hosting its general conference for the 142nd time—and its virtual 5K race for the first.

Participants can set their own 5K course and run or walk it anytime between August 24-30, to coincide with the conference dates (August 28-29). Those who cross their own finish line will receive a medal in the mail.

“Our annual fun run is normally an event at our conference,” said retired Brig. Gen. J. Roy Robinson, NGAUS president, in a news release. “We’re going virtual this year, so we opened the run to anyone who would like to support our efforts to tell the guard story.”

That story has taken a particularly poignant turn this year, as thousands of guard members have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Troops have delivered food and personal protective equipment, assisted in operating test centers, disinfected nursing homes and supported call centers for unemployment benefits.
