How to Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus at In-person Events

These are new guidelines from the CDC

It's been six months since the events industry shut down due to COVID-19, but in-person gatherings are slowly coming back. In fact, in-person meetings are already happening in a handful of states across the country, with some drawing as many as 1,000 guests. Research from Northstar Meetings Group shows 27 percent of meeting planners are rescheduling their events for sometime in 2020.

New recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide a critical roadmap for resuming events in the U.S., while ensuring the health and safety of attendees and staff. The guidance outlines key actions that can help prevent the spread of the virus and ranks event types based on their risk levels. Cleanliness protocols and considerations for cancelling or postponing a meeting are also covered.

"The more people an individual interacts with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading," reads the document. Another key factor to consider is the location of the event. "The higher the level of community transmission in the area that the gathering is being held, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spreading during a gathering."
