Coronavirus Tracker: School Association Coalition Launches COVID-19 Database

August 26, 2020

Current updates on association response to the global COVID-19 crisis, along with a roundup of conference, travel and business news and information.

Database Will Support Data-based Decisions
A coalition of associations and other experts are set to establish a national database that tracks responses to COVID-19 in educational institutions across the country.

AASA, The School Superintendents Association; the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP); and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) partnered with Brown University and Qualtrics to support educators in reviewing conditions and making data-driven decisions about how to proceed as the nation engages in a back-to-school experiment.

Some districts are returning to in-person classes; others are remote-only; others yet are embarking upon a hybrid model. The database will give educators insight into the metrics that will help them navigate these decisions, such as how many cases are in the community, how neighborhood schools are handling the situation, and what kind of community resources are available. A July 2020 survey by NAESP showed that school principals were hesitant to reopen, with only 26 percent of principals saying they supported a full reopening.
