Current updates on association response to the global COVID-19 crisis, along with a roundup of conference, travel and business news and information.

Pre-departure Testing Plan Needed to Help Aviation Industry Rebound
Several travel industry associations are urging the U.S. government to create standards around travel that include pre-flight testing for COVID-19. On October 22, the groups sent a letter to federal officials saying states’ hodgepodge of rules—with 18 requiring visitors to quarantine— depress travel.

“This patchwork of rules is confusing and discourages travel,” they wrote in the letter. “There is widespread agreement in the aviation and travel industries that appropriate COVID-19 pre-departure testing protocols can serve as an alternative to quarantines while increasing confidence in the health and safety of the air transportation system.”

Twenty groups have signed onto the letter, including Airlines for America, the American Hotel & Lodging Association, American Society of Travel Advisors, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Travel Association.
