COVID-19 Update: 2,022 New Cases Reported Today

March 3, 2021

Today, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported an increase in new cases much higher than the past few days. ODH reported 2,022 new cases of COVID-19 and 110 hospitalizations today. The state did not release a number of reported deaths for the last 24 hours.

In February, the department announced that roughly 4,100 COVID-19 deaths may have been underreported through the state's system from October to December. After underreporting those deaths related to COVID-19, the department announced it will move to a different system that is more accurate, but data release could be slower. When ODH moves to the new system, the department expects death numbers to fluctuate. The death totals are now based off death certificates that have been reviewed and are certified.

ODH also reported 972,605 confirmed cases, 16,750 deaths and 50,613 hospitalizations. Today, the department reported 914,893 presumed recoveries and said approximately 1,725,712 people had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
