COVID-19 Update: 1,868 New Cases Reported Today

March 10, 2021

Today, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported 1,868 new cases of COVID-19 and 114 hospitalizations on Wednesday. The state did not release a number of reported deaths for the last 24 hours.

In February, the department announced that roughly 4,100 COVID-19 deaths may have been underreported through the state's system from October to December. After underreporting those deaths related to COVID-19, the department announced it will move to a different system that is more accurate, but data release could be slower. ODH expects death numbers to fluctuate. The death totals are now tabulated from death certificates that have been reviewed and are certified.

According to a disclaimer on the ODH website, "Other states do not send these death certificates to ODH's Bureau of Vital Statistics on a regular schedule and therefore fluctuations will be reflected in reported mortality data."

ODH also reported 983,486 confirmed cases, 17,662 deaths and 51,211 hospitalizations. Today, the department reported 931,411 presumed recoveries and indicated approximately 2,086,105 people had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
