Biden to Champion Voting Rights in Georgia

He is traveling to the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, President Joe Biden will travel to Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthplace of Atlanta on to jump-start stalled efforts to reform U.S. voting rights, after some states passed new laws that activists say will deter Black voters from going to the polls.

Along with Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden will speak at Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College, two historically Black schools, as Democrats gird themselves for tough 2022 congressional elections that could strip them of their majority and the chance to change federal voting laws.

Some civil rights activists say Biden should have done more during his first year in office to push for reforms, and some, including Georgia's Stacey Abrams, will not attend his speech. Biden told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that he spoke to Abrams this morning, and that they got their scheduling mixed up but are "on the same page."
