Today, President Joe Biden outlined U.S. sanctions against Russia after it launched a full-scale attack against Ukraine, and said the aggression “cannot go unanswered,” adding that if it did, “the consequences for America would be much worse.”
“America stands up to bullies, we stand up for freedom,” Biden said in a Thursday afternoon White House address. “This is who we are.”
Earlier in the day, Russia launched a broad attack on along three main fronts, bombarding cities, towns and villages and advancing toward the capital, Kyiv. A senior U.S. defense official said the moves were “clearly designed to take key population centers” and topple Ukraine’s democratically-elected, pro-Western government.
