Position Summary: 

As part of an intentional planned succession the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to work closely in a transition period with our current CFO to understand the mission, vision, strategic plan and goals of the organization; build relationships, define CFO responsibilities, learn the culture and identify urgent needs.

Create forecasts for predicting future growth. Serve as a key influence in the development and execution of strategies that are designed for long-term growth, sustainability and risk management. Develop the annual operating budget while assisting with departmental supporting budgets, drive prioritization and funding of strategic and tactical initiatives based on the alignment with the organization's business plans and objectives. Provide oversight and leadership to financial analytics and insights, board reporting and presentation. Assess and quantify organization risks, develop and implement risk management strategies, monitor financial business performance. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Direct and oversee the financial management of the organization including timely, accurate and actionable financial data, business and industry insights, financial planning, reporting and summaries.
  • Create forecasts for predicting future growth.
  • Serve as a key influence in the development and execution of strategies that are designed for long-term growth, sustainability and risk management.
  • Develop the annual operating budget while assisting with departmental supporting budgets, drive prioritization and funding of strategic and tactical initiatives based on the alignment with the organization's business plans and objectives.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to financial analytics and insights, board reporting and presentation.
  • Assess and quantify organization risks, develop and implement risk management strategies, monitor financial business performance. 

Other Duties:

  • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
  • Reviews the planning process and suggests improvements to current methods.
  • Analyzes operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
  • Works with the Executive Vice President and other leaders to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process.
  • Studies long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth in sales and market share.
  • Oversees investment of funds and works with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion.
  • Have a thorough understanding of business and tax structures for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
  • Manage the policies and procedures that coincide with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for accounting to ensure an audit in compliance with GAAP.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in the role, candidates should: 

  • Possess excellent management, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Be an effective communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Be proficient in database and accounting application systems.
  • The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of a membership/trade organization and have a sincere interest in Ohio agriculture.
  • A master's degree in business administration, accounting or finance is required.
  • A CPA designation is preferred, and eight to ten years of financial management is required.
