Commercial fisheries are predicting harmful effects of administration's tariffs

Like the farming industry, commercial fishing is raising concerns about what it predicts will be the harmful effects of tariffs, using the voices of people actually working in the field.

Last week, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) relaunched its AboutSeafood.com website to tell stories of workers, particularly in the New England region, whose livelihood could be harmed by the Trump administration’s trade war with China and other countries. The campaign features a new slogan—“Seafood, See Jobs”—as well as expanded content offerings.

The site includes clips about seafood sourcinga fishing supply business owned by two women in Maine, and the real-world costs of tariffs on U.S. fishermen. The goal is to show that all sectors of the industry would feel a deep impact from a decline in the global fishing trade.
