Ohio's 10.5 Cent Gas Tax Hike Goes Into Effect July 1

The Department of Transportation pushed for additional funding

Ohio’s gas tax will increase by 10.5 cents per gallon on July 1, bringing the total state tax to 38.5 cents per gallon. Diesel fuel will be raised to 47 cents per gallon.

New legislation signed by Gov. Mike DeWine also establishes a $100 registration fee for hybrid vehicles and a $200 fee for electric vehicles.

The compromise reached by DeWine and Republicans in the House and Senate is designed to pay for a backlog of road projects across the state and will also provide a $70 million increase in public transportation spending. The Department of Transportation pushed for additional funding.
