Cybersecurity Chat: The Security Risks Of Popular Collaboration Apps

Collaboration increases vulnerability to significant security risks

Conferencing and workplace collaboration apps are experiencing a period of incredible popularity. As companies and users flock to these platforms, now is a good time to understand how the convenience of these apps can translate to security risks, and how you can protect yourself from such threats.

The ability to allow millions of users to collaborate across geographies and time zones makes collaboration apps a major business enabler, but what many companies don't realize is that those same features can make businesses vulnerable to significant security risks. A recent survey of security professionals found that more than a third of accidental employee breaches exposing sensitive information involved collaboration and file-sharing services.

Chat and collaboration apps are becoming the de facto operating systems for companies. Employees can chat, exchange technical information, collect tweets and news articles of their interest, automate their processes and share other high-risk content. With the level of content flowing into these chat apps from users and also automated sources, a new enterprise security framework could become necessary.
