Dayton CVB Welcomed Naval Veterans in September

The Navy veterans served on three national destroyer tenders

The Dayton CVB proudly welcomed Navy veterans and their families from across the country for the 2019 Tri-Ship Reunion at the Crowne Plaza Dayton, Sept. 23-27.

The Navy veterans served on destroyer tenders, including the USS Dixie AD-14, the USS Piedmont AD-17, and the USS Sierra AD-18. Destroyer tenders provided maintenance support to destroyers and other small warships. The USS Dixie was in service for over 42 years, including during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It was decommissioned in 1982.

The USS Piedmont was in service over 38 years and also supported the war efforts during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The USS Sierra began service in 1944 and was decommissioned in 1993. Through multiple war efforts, the ship was attached to the Pacific Fleet.

During their stay in Dayton, the Tri-Ship Reunion group toured the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Carillon Historical Park, the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and the Packard Museum.
