Mobile World Congress Canceled over Coronavirus Concerns

It's one of the one of the world’s most widely attended tradeshows

The Wuhan coronavirus is forcing the cancellation of one of the one of the world’s most widely attended telecom tradeshows.

On Wednesday, the GSM Association announced it was cancelling Mobile World Congress, a 100,000-person event it organizes in Barcelona. The news comes a day after a report in Spanish media said that the association was discussing its options.

“With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event,” said GSMA Limited CEO John Hoffman in a statement. “The Host City Parties respect and understand this decision.”
