Coronavirus Tracker: Architects Offer Advice on Assessing Alternative Care Sites

With the dramatic need for additional medical resources, local officials are often having to look in new places for makeshift hospital spaces.

A task force with the American Institute of Architects is taking steps to help. This week, AIA announced the creation of a new assessment tool that aims to make it easy for non-medical professionals to figure out if a nontraditional space, such as a sports stadium, a hotel, a dorm or a convention center, could be used as a medical facility.

In a news release, task force chair Dr. Molly Scanlon noted that the goal was to make such information more clear to those who are not experts in healthcare design.
