The COVID-19 pandemic is shaking up government relations work just as it is so many other association efforts, according to a new Public Affairs Council report.

In a survey of 245 government affairs executives taken last month, more than 70 percent said they expected it to become harder to meet with federal officials in person even after the pandemic is over—and 53 percent suggested that meeting with state officials in a face-to-face setting could become impossible.

Which means that videoconferences are increasingly the name of the game, with 83 percent of respondents choosing that route now. More than a third (37 percent) expect to continue using videoconferencing after the crisis ends.
