Association Coalition Focuses on COVID-19 Vaccination Effort
Nineteen healthcare and public health groups have come together to form the National Associations’ COVID Vaccine Leadership Council, which will support implementation of the nation’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.

The council, which is co-chaired by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), will work toward solving some of the challenges expected as jurisdictions begin to implement the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) COVID-19 Vaccination Playbook at the state level. The coalition’s work will also complement the efforts of the Department of Health and Human Services and the federal vaccine development initiative known as Operation Warp Speed.

“The COVID-19 vaccination campaign will be historic and aggressive,” said Mitchel Rothholz, APhA’s chief of governance and state affiliates, in a press release. “Our coalition will assist with strategies, foster discussions and exchange information and ideas, as we confront and solve the challenges organizational members can expect to face in the coming months.”

Coalition members plan to address several areas, including supporting a cohesive and collaborative national approach to vaccine prioritization, distribution, and administration; coordinating efforts to maximize vaccine access and immunization rates; and fostering the most effective ways to provide vaccination to critical populations.
