By 2030, AEP to Make 40 Percent of its Electricity from Renewable Energy

The company issued the forecast Monday

American Electric Power (AEP), once one of the biggest generators of electricity from coal in the United States, is now forecasting that 40 percent of the electricity it produces will come from renewable sources by 2030.

The Columbus-based utility also said 14 percent of the $37 billion of the capital investments it is planning from 2021 through 2025 will be for renewable energy.

"The company's capital investments reflect our commitment to enhancing service and delivering reliable, clean energy and advanced technologies that exceed our customers' expectations," said Nick Akins, AEP's chairman, president and chief executive.
