COVID-19 & Ohio: Salad Bars and Buffet Lines Allowed to Reopen

Not all businesses will choose to reopen self-service

Ohio diners can once again build their own salads from a selection of toppings and pile plates high with buffet offerings starting Friday.

A revised state health order allows restaurants and grocery stores to reopen self-serve stations after they had to close due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. Not all businesses will choose to reopen self service but those that do will have to follow several guidelines to minimize spread of germs and the coronavirus.

Customers have to wear facial coverings while standing in line or dishing out food. If a mask or covering cannot be worn, an employee must serve the customer. The revised health order also requires customers to use hand sanitizer before entering a buffet line and after serving themselves.
