COVID-19 Update: 20,320 New Cases Reported Today

Dec. 29, 2021

Today, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported 20,320 new cases of COVID-19 and 592 new hospitalizations. The agency did not report any additional deaths.

Today's cases mark a new single-day high since the start of the pandemic. Meanwhile, hospitalizations for COVID-19 are at an all-time high.  Last week, health officials reported nearly 16,000 cases on Dec. 23, 2021, the previous highest number of cases in a "true" 24-hour period.

ODH also reported 1,975,723 confirmed cases, 28,780 deaths and 95,709 hospitalizations. The agency also reported 1,737,408 presumed recoveries and indicated approximately 6,972,058 Ohioans have received at least one dose of the vaccine. This figure represents approximately 60 percent of Ohioans - a very low figure compared to numbers nationwide.
