Nonprofits are Impacted by Kentucky House Bill 8

This impacts organizations doing business in Kentucky

The Department of Revenue has identified new services subject to sales tax in the state of Kentucky, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

For those businesses providing these services, 6 percent sales tax must be charged and collected on the total sales price of the service beginning on or after Jan. 1. Businesses without a sales & use tax account through the KY OneStop Business Portal must apply for an account at

The introduction of these taxable services stems from House Bill 8, ratified in April 2022, in an effort to expand Kentucky sales tax to high-growth services.
