Health Coverage Options for 2024

An open enrollment update from LIG Solutions

It is the time of year when many are planning for family gatherings and the fast-approaching holidays, but there is something else that happens this time of year that is often overlooked but equally as important.  This would be the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for Medicare and the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) for those under 65, with coverage options for individuals and families.

If you own or manage a business, this is also the time of year that you renew your employer-sponsored health plans for your employees and their dependents.

Regardless of what type of health coverage you have, the annual and open enrollment periods are the one time of the year when you can access all the different coverage options that are available in the marketplace, and this includes getting covered for the first time, changing existing coverage, or looking at new approaches and affordable options for yourself, your family, or your employees.

After the last few years of the COVID-19 pandemic, we can happily say that we are looking at a “normal” enrollment period this year, and these are the dates you need to keep in mind if you are looking at health coverage solutions for 2024:

  • Medicare Annual Enrollment: Started on Oct. 15, 2023 and ends Dec. 7, 2023*
  • Under 65 Open Enrollment (Phase One): Started on Nov. 1, 2023 and ends Dec. 15, 2023*
  • Under 65 Open Enrollment (Phase One): Starts Dec. 16, 2023 and ends Jan. 16, 2024**
  • Employer Coverage: This can be done at any time of the year for most situations
