Five Tips for Maximizing Productivity with a Hybrid Staff on Slack
Here is some simple advice for leaders
Leading a business today means embracing the complex dynamics that come with a hybrid workforce and keeping remote and in-office employees on the same page is no easy task. To learn more about how leaders can foster collaboration in this type of setting, we sat down with Olivia Grace, senior director of product management at Slack, a platform attuned to the communication needs of a modern workplace.
1. Focus on Outcomes
Grace acknowledges that many hybrid team leaders fear not being able to see what their employees are working on. She advises bosses with such concerns to “focus on outcomes rather than timecards,” adding that as a manager herself, any worries she has about her team's efficiency should be "my problem, not my employees’ problem."
2. Use DMs Sparingly
At Slack, Grace’s team mainly works out of project-specific channels, and her team tries to keep all nonpersonal communication out of DMs. While some of the best ideas come from informal one-on-one conversations, either in person or through direct messages, if these ideas aren't brought into a central location, it can create confusion for the workers who weren't included.
