Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program

In 1985, the Convention Industry Council (CIC), which is now known as the Events Industry Council, launched the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program to enhance the knowledge and performance of meeting professionals, to promote the status and credibility of the meeting profession and to advance uniform standards of practice.

The foremost certification of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, the CMP program recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism. The achievement of this credential immediately elevates the meeting professional to the next level in their professional career and increases positive recognition.

The CMP certification program is a two-part process in which you must complete the CMP application to demonstrate your eligibility, and then successfully pass a written examination covering the functions performed in meeting management.

How to Become a CMP

CMP applications are reviewed after each application submission deadline to determine an applicant's eligibility to take the examination. Eligible applicants are notified via email from EIC. Candidates have one (1) year from the time that they are notified of their eligibility to take and pass the examination. The CMP exam is administered throughout the year during a 10-day testing period at a secure testing center. Prometric, EIC testing agency offers more than 450 testing centers internationally.

CMP International Standards

The CMP International Standards (CMP-IS) is the body of knowledge for the Certified Meeting Professional program and examination. The CMP-IS defines and categorizes the skills, competencies and abilities an individual needs in order to be successful in the profession.
