Senate Finance Weighs Kies Nomination for Treasury Tax Post
Kies brings decades of tax policy experience to the table
The Senate Finance Committee held a nomination hearing April 10 to consider Kenneth Kies for the role of Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the Treasury Department.
If confirmed, Kies would be at the forefront of shaping tax policy, including efforts to extend key provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and to develop new tax legislation impacting both individuals and businesses.
Kies brings decades of tax policy experience to the table. A respected tax attorney and seasoned lobbyist, he previously served as chief tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee and as chief of staff for the Joint Committee on Taxation.
Following his tenure on Capitol Hill, Kies advised clients at PwC before leading the Federal Policy Group, where he represented major corporations like Microsoft and Pfizer, along with numerous nonprofit organizations and charitable groups.
Senate Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-ID) praised Kies’ background, calling him “eminently qualified” to support Congress in not only making the TCJA provisions permanent but also advancing broader tax policy reforms. Crapo did not signal when a vote will be held for Kies’ nomination.
