India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire, Talks
The ceasefire paused a flare-up that pushed the neighbors to the brink of war
India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, ending days of clashes that killed dozens of people and pushed the nuclear-armed neighbors to the brink of war.
The news was announced Saturday by President Donald Trump, who said they were the result of a "long night of talks" mediated by the United States.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the news shortly after in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told reporters the director general of military operations of Pakistan called his counterpart in India and both sides agreed that they would "stop all firing and military action" on land, air and sea from 5 p.m. onward.
