Tourist Boat Capsizes in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay
Dozens died in the accident
Dozens of people are dead after a tourist boat capsized during a storm in northeastern Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay, according to state media reports, as rescue operations continued into the early hours Sunday.
Navy divers were deployed to help with the search, which was hampered by rough seas, strong winds and heavy rains. At least 10 people were rescued, and the capsized vessel was salvaged and towed ashore, Viet Nam News reported.
The boat carrying 46 Vietnamese tourists and three crew members capsized after encountering a sudden storm Saturday afternoon, the reports said. State media initially reported that at least eight children were among the 37 who died. By Sunday afternoon, Viet Nam News had revised the overall toll to 35.
