Apple Quietly Rolled Out One of the Best New macOS Features in Years
Users can now decide how long things stay on their clipboards
Say what you want about macOS Tahoe and its new Liquid Glass interface, but without question, Apple has included some of its best Mac features in a long time. I get that some people don't prefer the look of transparency everywhere, and Tahoe introduced a pretty significant change in the way your Mac looks and feels, but there are some really useful new features sitting behind the glassy new interface.
Spotlight, for example, now has superpowers that haven’t existed on the Mac before the update. First introduced with macOS 10.4 Tiger, Spotlight was pretty great when Apple rolled it out in 2005. There were other utilities that existed at the time—like Launchbar—that made it fast and easy to quickly open apps or files, but it always seemed like that should be something built into macOS. Maybe the best reason is that there are a lot of people who use the Mac but are never going to download a utility like Launchbar or Quicksilver.
Now, with 26.1, Apple has made it easier to search your Mac with filters and even take actions right in Spotlight, like sending a text message. You can also create quick shortcuts to launch tasks or apps.
