United States, Ukraine Move Forward on Peace Deal
However, Russia's rejection is likely
Momentum is picking up for the new U.S.-led peace deal for Ukraine, with progress made over the weekend in Geneva and new meetings involving the United States, Russian and Ukrainian delegations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is even expected to travel to the United States in the coming days to meet with President Donald Trump on the deal.
All these negotiations may be for nothing, however, as the work to make the 28-point U.S. plan more acceptable to Ukraine is precisely what will doom it with Russia, analysts say.
Tuesday, the White House press secretary said the U.S. had made "tremendous progress" toward a peace deal by bringing Russia and Ukraine to the table.
