President Joe Biden on Thursday acknowledged Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, seeking to comfort Americans scared of the prospects of another Trump term while his own legacy remains in question.
“Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable,” Biden said in the Rose Garden during his first public remarks since Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. “We all get knocked down, but the measure of our character, as my dad would say, is how quickly we get back up.”
“Remember, “a defeat does not mean we are defeated," Biden added. "We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up.”
