In a unanimous vote, Columbus City Council voted to add 487 miles of bikeways across the city in a long-term plan to make travel more accessible for bikers and encourage biking as a mode of transportation.
The "Bike Plus" plan includes a vision network that shows where the city would add bikeways. It also identifies communities of interest, where people currently face the most transportation challenges.
The city of Columbus expects the population to grow by a million residents by 2050, and council member Lourdes Barroso De Padilla said having more access to bike lanes will keep the additional traffic off the road.
