The Ohio Society of Association Professionals (OSAP) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) are pleased to share some positive updates regarding reconciliation legislation that would extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and enact many of the president’s domestic policy priorities.
Yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee released their portion of the broader reconciliation bill.
A provision passed by the House that would have placed a new tax on nonprofit expenses for parking and transportation fringe benefits has been stripped from the bill. Additionally, ASAE's lobbying firm did not see the reintroduction of other harmful provisions that would have diverted nonprofit resources away from their missions.
Your engagement and the persistent outreach of the association community – led by ASAE's Community Impact Coalition, of which OSAP President & CEO Jarrod A. Clabaugh serves on the steering committee – made a real difference in having the parking tax removed from the bill. The Community Impact Coalition will reinforce to lawmakers in the House that the nonprofit sector supports the removal of the parking tax provision.
OSAP will be in touch with additional opportunities for you to support this advocacy. We will continue to closely monitor the bill as it moves through the final stages of the legislative process and provide updates on further developments.
Thank you for your commitment to raising the voices of the association community in tax reform.
