Senate Finance Chair Signals Second Tax Package Could Happen

Dozens of tax policy changes that did not make their way into OBBBA

Senate Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-ID) said this week that GOP leaders could make a second run at budget reconciliation this year to get more of the party's tax policy proposals into law.

"We didn't clear the deck in the last bill," Crapo told POLITICO when asked about his committee's biggest priorities for the fall.

There were dozens of tax policy changes that did not make their way into H.R. 1, the massive tax package that Congress cleared earlier this summer.

In terms of priorities, Crapo specifically mentioned the need to address prescription drug costs. Democrats' top tax priority is extending enhanced incentives for purchasing health insurance, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

ASAE and its Community Impact Coalition, in which OSAP and its leadership played a significant role, successfully blocked harmful provisions that would have imposed additional taxes on nonprofit organizations as the first megabill came together but have emphasized to coalition members and the broader association community the need to remain vigilant as tax proposals continue to be discussed on Capitol Hill.
