Director of Education

Builders Exchange of Central Ohio

Overall objective of the position: Establish and execute an annual Builders Exchange education agenda and budget, with input from the Executive Director and Board.

Summary of essential job responsibilities and duties:

I. Manage the operations of the BX Education Department:

  • Prepare and manage an annual budget, with income of approximately $215,000 and expenses of   
    approximately $118,000
  • Plan and execute any appropriate programs, including: Core education courses; BX-WIN series; Rising Leaders Institute; Monthly LEED Breakfasts; Several miscellaneous seminars
  • Manage member specialty groups: Law and Finance Group of the BX; Young Professionals Group (BXYP)
  • Submit classes for continuing education unit credit with the AIA, GBCI, etc. as necessary for specific courses
  • Establish department policies and procedures
  • Assign tasks to assistant director
  • Revise annual department business plans as needed
  • Attend all education classes at least once during the first year, and thereafter, any program being taught by a new instructor. Stay until the conclusion of each class

II. Coordinate marketing and sales of education programs:

  • Oversee news articles, brochures, faxes, emails, telemarketing and press releases for education activities
  • Maintain the education sections of the BX website by providing updates as needed (changes/corrections) to the Director of Communication
  • Continually assess market conditions for various education offerings; determine target markets for each.

III. Research, develop and evaluate new education programs: 

  • Track topics of interest and trends affecting the BX member firms
  • Research and develop programs to meet those needs
  • Create systems to measure program effectiveness

Qualifications required to perform the job duties:

  • Skills: Organization, marketing, writing, financial, inventory, personnel management, communication, public relations, detail orientation, customer service, research and development, editing and computer
  • Knowledge: Adult education, event planning, budget development, construction industry operations and issues, computer, internet knowledge and computer database capabilities
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communication-related field preferred.

Abilities:

  • Some local travel (auto) required; driver’s license and use of automobile required
  • Serving as a positive team leader and participant, and a positive motivator of both co-workers and volunteers is required.

How successful completion is measured:

Director will meet with Director of Professional Development and Executive Director in the last quarter of the fiscal year, to review business plan, next year’s annual operational goals, budgetary goals and department/individual goals. At least once a month, the Director and Director of Professional Development will meet to discuss progress on these goals. At year end, the Director and Executive Director will meet to jointly assess achievement of these goals, as well as any new projects that were accomplished during the year.
