The Reading Recovery Council of North America, Inc. is a not-for-profit association of Reading Recovery professionals, advocates, and partners. The Council provides a network of opportunities for leadership and professional development and is an advocate for Reading Recovery throughout North America. Membership is open to anyone interested in Reading Recovery and early literacy.

Conference Manager:  Are you adept at simultaneously handling multiple assignments? Is your attention to detail impeccable? Are you able to plan and meet critical deadlines? Are you able to work productively with co-workers and volunteers? Fantastic! That is exactly what we are seeking!

Your skills will be valued, as you assist the Director of Conferences and Events. You will work as a member of the conference department team in all areas of conference preparation including planning, coordination, implementation and follow up. This position will support multiple events and all related functions.

To perform this job successfully, you must demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate effectively with others. Advanced knowledge of conference planning and management, technology, and general marketing knowledge including writing, proofing, and editing content and using different marketing vehicles is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assume primary responsibility for the conference-related technology, including conference registration software, call for session proposals process, exhibitor and other conference modules, database management, website updates, mobile apps, webcast production. Manipulate conference software to produce reports with detailed summaries and graphs, and perform other technology responsibilities
  • Coordinate program content, speaker management, AV needs, instructional materials, room sets and food and beverage. Develop surveys and evaluations, compile results, create reports and conduct analyses. Maintain financial records
  • Support volunteers and committees by preparing agendas and minutes, attending meetings and addressing needs
  • Market conferences to different audiences in a variety of ways such as print, mailings, email, e-newsletters, social media and track progress. Write, proof, and edit content for brochures, letters, session descriptions and other. Maintain database of targeted audiences
  • Interact with vendors such as audio-visual equipment rental, security and others by preparing requests for proposals, negotiating contracts, monitoring work and conducting follow-up. Solicit sponsors and exhibitors and manage related work prior to, during and after conferences. Maintain financial records relating to vendor work
  • Train, assign projects and monitor the work of contractors
  • Provide other coordination and planning services as needed

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from 4-year college or university
  • A minimum of 7 years of direct experience and success in conference planning and management and technology use to support online registration, marketing, reporting, and other related functions
  • Prefer CMP and/or CAE credential and experience working in professional associations
  • Strong organizational skills, written and verbal communications skills, well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills, and the capability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Proficient in the use of database applications, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience with social media platforms, internet software and project management software desired
